SEEDSBOOK.com: Modern Technology Helps Seeds Overcome Challenges
Crossing international borders to do programming face-to-face is not always possible. For example, our Seeds in Gaza and Pakistan are largely inaccessible in person right now. However, SOP has harnessed the power of modern technology to overcome some of these physical obstacles. In 2007, we launched SeedsBook.com, a social networking site modeled after the popular Facebook.com website. In this password protected online setting accessible only to Seeds, they are able to communicate in chat rooms hosted by a moderator (typically an SOP staff member). Users are able to upload photos and video messages, and staff are able to post notices, reports and updates for the Seeds.
Each Seed is also asked to create a profile, allowing SOP to keep up-to-date on how to reach its alumni. Nearly 1,000 Seeds have signed on to SeedsBook.com and it is continuing to gain popularity.
